JAMES BURNETT
Associate
James Burnett is an Associate at The Wicks Group, where he provides support in both commercial and regulatory matters. He assists U.S. and international clients with governmental approvals and other regulatory matters before the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, Department of State, Department of Transportation, Department of Homeland Security, and other federal agencies. Mr. Burnett also has experience with drafting and negotiating complex transactions, as well as advising clients on corporate formation and joint-ventures.
Prior to joining The Wicks Group, Mr. Burnett served at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Chief Counsel for Industry and Security, where he assisted in enforcement actions for violations of Export Administration Regulations. Mr. Burnett also worked with the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee, Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, where he supported the Committee’s inquiry into the Department of Energy’s loan guarantee program involving Solyndra LLC. His volunteer activities include assisting the D.C. Street Law, High School Program. Mr. Burnett is a 2011 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and received his bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University.
Representative Experience
• Performing due diligence and investigative research to support a global cargo carrier’s participation in U.S. Department of Defense Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF) program. |
• Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts on behalf of a national airport management company and in support of a regional airport authority.
• Assisted U.S. jet engine manufacturer and European defense company with export control compliance and other regulatory issues, including license applications, license amendments, and voluntary self-disclosures to the U.S. Department of State.
• Supported international litigation, including performing discovery and due diligence, on behalf of foreign aircraft leasing company.
• Advised start-up venture with issues concerning investor relations, corporate formation, trademark registration, and patent applications.
